Benefits of Pregnancy Yoga

There are many physical and emotional benefits to practising pregnancy yoga. Including supporting the body and mind as well as a connection with your baby and preparation for birth and the huge change of life.

In a pregnancy yoga class women practice movements & positions, these can be used during labour, gets baby into best position ”Optimal foetal positioning" while breathing helps acceptance & calm. Yoga supports from early pregnancy to delivery!

Physical changes include; changes in centre of gravity, loading of weight on spine & skeletal structures, huge increase in blood & fluid volume and hormonal fluctuations. Yoga helps musculoskeletal discomfort such as; lower back pain, rib pain, shoulder pain and can advise for Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP).

Emotional benefits: Yoga helps women feel more supported, more at ease, breathing improves, becomes stronger, nurturing both yourself and your baby and brings sense of "faith in the body and yoga benefits the nervous system and brings calmness through stressful time.

Improved circulation; the first trimester: Fluid levels rise . Increased plasma to deliver nutrients to baby, pregnant women can feel unfit / breathless and can result in swollen extremities. Movement benefits circulation, also metabolism and immunity and an improved circulation gives that "healthy glow”.

Changes in sleep patterns are common, lack of sleep leads to stress & exhaustion, just when body needs resources! Yoga can bring calm and improve sleep, boosts confidence and self-esteem and benefits the mother and baby!

Endorphins are the body's natural pain & stress reliever, they bring feeling of relaxed joy and can cross the placenta to the baby.

Yoga brings confidence, helping women connect with their bodies, moving freely, trusting intuition, this can help with preparing for labour.
